FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Whitewater kayaking can be considered one of the most exciting activities you can do, and experienced kayakers are taught how to approach Valley Falls State Park safely.
Sunday’s free waterfall clinic was hosted by Jeff Prycl with Rocky Mountain Kayak, a New Stanton, Pennsylvania company staffed with world-class professional kayakers.
These professional kayakers instructed experienced kayakers on how to prepare for whitewater and experience top-class rapids and waterfalls.
“People who have never run whitewater before will come here to learn the proper strokes, the right paddle, how to flip, turn around, everything you need to do safely to run whitewater and with trained professionals who are around looking at you and telling you what you’re doing okay, what you’re doing wrong, and walking you through step-by-step how to properly handle whitewater and waterfalls,” said park superintendent Brett Harshbarger. of Valley Falls State.
Waterfalls and whitewater is an extremely dangerous activity, and in order for kayakers to descend waterfalls, they must complete and sign a kayak waiver at Valley Falls State Park.
