The Northland Sportsmen’s Club will present an ice fishing tournament on February 19


GAYLORD – The Northland Sportsmen’s Club will host a winter ice fishing tournament from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 19 at Lake Otsego.

Registration on the lake begins at 8:30 a.m. Bait, poles, tackle and holes will be provided and hot beverages will be available in the park’s hot cabin.

This is a free event organized by the Northland Sportsmen’s Club and local sponsors including the Bruce Fasel Memorial Fund of the Otsego Community Foundation.

The event will take place during a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Free Fishing Weekend, so no fishing license is required.

State park passport fees will be waived for the event. Kids must register at the state park before fishing to win one of the main prizes offered for most fish, biggest fish, and smallest fish (not including bait) in each of the fishing categories. following ages: 0-5, 6-10, and 11-16.

All participants must be accompanied by an adult and fish must be measured or weighed by noon at the registration table. Lunch begins at noon at the Northland Sportsmen’s Clubhouse at 1592 Old Alba Road.

If the ice on the lake is deemed unsafe, the event will take place at the club from 10 a.m. to noon. All prizes will be awarded by a draw of the children present.
