PINE CITY, NY (WETM) — This weekend will be the final boater safety course of the year hosted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
In the near future, this type of course will be mandatory for all people operating a motorized boat and must hold an appropriate license, regardless of age.
Some age groups already require a course to be taken, a list of age groups can be viewed below:
- People born after January 1, 1993 must take a safety course from 2020 onwards.
- People born after January 1, 1988 must take a safety course from 2022 onwards.
- People born after January 1, 1983 must take a safety course from 2023 and beyond.
- People born after January 1, 1978 must take a safety course from 2024 and beyond.
- The requirements extend to all motorboat operators from 2025, regardless of age.
The course will be held Saturday, June 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Pine City Volunteer Fire Department and will be limited to 30 participants. The youngest person who can attend a course is 10 years old.
