A 72-year-old man was found dead in upstate New York after an apparent boat trip, according to state environmental officials. Rangers said the man, originally from Inlet but not otherwise identified, was found on the evening of May 26 in Little Green Pond, just west of the community of Lake Clear. The death was not publicly announced by investigators until Tuesday. Rangers began searching the man’s camp and surrounding area around 1.30pm that day, six days after he was said to have last seen his wife. Police were able to “ping” his phone in the Lake Clear area, bringing their search closer. It remains unclear where the initially excavated camp was located in relation to the pond. Crews found his car near Little Green Pond within hours. A boat was found around 3.40pm – authorities did not say what type – followed by the man’s body about five minutes later. The body was turned over to the county coroner and the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Criminal Investigations Unit.
