LISLE, IL – After 14 years of planning, negotiating and waiting, the Lisle Community Park boat launch is about to make its debut. The Lisle Park District will announce the opening of the new public boat launch on September 11 with a dedication ceremony, freebies and a raffle to try to win a new kayak.
The first boat launch design was presented in 2007 after Openlands, the Illinois Paddling Council and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) proposed to establish the first boat launch. to county public water along the DuPage River, according to the Lisle Park District website. In the years that followed, several grant applications were submitted, with the IDNR presenting its final agreement to the Lisle Park District in 2019.
Shortly thereafter, park district officials chose to put the boat launch project on hold due to offers being offered at costs of $ 180,000 or more. An offer was finally accepted by Lisle Park District in February 2020 and construction was completed in August 2021. Funding was also made possible through a donation of $ 15,000 from the Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation.
During the 9/11 inauguration, members of the US Coast Guard will be on hand to conduct boat safety checks and distribute boating safety resources.
Residents can purchase $ 10 raffle tickets before the event for a chance to win one of two kayaks.
