New boating facility gives KB Asifabad the first push towards tourism development

Adilabad: After a considerably long wait, Kumram Bheem Asifabad is ready to start a boating facility in the scenic Kumram Bheem project reservoir, about 10 km from the district headquarters town of Asifabad. The district administration has purchased a 33-seat catamaran for this purpose, and it will likely be inaugurated on Independence Day.

The reservoir will eventually be transformed into a tourist spot through the construction of chalets and other facilities for tourists. The area necessary for this is being cleared along the banks of the reservoir.

KB Asifabad is considered one of the most backward areas of Telangana, but it can easily be called one of the most beautiful landscapes, endowed, as it is, with enormous natural resources. The district has about 50% forest cover, which is quite high by today’s standards.

The beauty of the forests is enhanced by its high number of hilly streams over which there are a greater number of waterfalls, especially its western highlands. Among the most picturesque are the waterfalls of Gundala and Saptagundalu, the latter intended for the development of the tourist area.

The boat arrived Saturday from its manufacturing unit. KB Asifabad collector Rahul Ra, additional collector Chahat Bajpai and other officials visited the pier in Ada village where they were briefed on the vessel and its operation.

Officials told NewsMeter that four locals will be trained to operate the boat in preparation for the eventual takeover of operations. Initially, operators trained under the aegis of the national tourism department will steer the boat.
