The city issued a permit for The Markets at Town Center to add a kayak launch ramp to the pond behind REI – Recreational Equipment Inc.

Project costs total $ 356,562, depending on the permits.

FB Andrews Contracting LLC of Jacksonville is the contractor for the $ 172,000 wharf construction project at 4871 Town Center Parkway.

The city also issued a permit on July 26 to FB Andrews to manage the horizontal development at the project cost of $ 184,562.

Hines Global REIT 4875 Town Center LLC is the owner of the building. Halff Associates Inc. is the civil engineer.

The project includes an aluminum walkway and a floating dock.

In August 2020, Hines, owner of The Markets at Town Center, said he wanted to build an outdoor amenity center and kayak launch for REI and other tenants who could use the features for the products, training, courses and meetings.

Halff Associates said in a letter to the St. Johns River Water Management District that the project includes a covered outdoor seating area, wooden deck, concrete sidewalk and steps, and a floating dock. for launching kayaks on the pond.

Helen Ciesla, general property manager of Hines, said in August 2020 that Hines is building the dock, kayak launch pad and outdoor seating, which can be a teaching area, for use by all tenants in the markets. downtown.

This includes REI and West Marine for outdoor equipment and other tenants, such as Nordstrom Rack, for meetings and staff training.
