  • The main difference between the Z06 and the base Stingray is the all-new engine, boosting the Corvette from 490 to 670 horsepower and its redline from 6,450 rpm to 8,600 rpm.
  • There are other ways the Z06 is just taller: the body width, wheels and tires, brakes and rear spoiler are all enlarged.

New for 2020, the C8 Stingray launched the Corvette’s first mid-engine platform. It uses a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 that produces 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque (495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet with the Z51 Performance Package), paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In our tests, it launched the C8 Stingray to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds on the 11.2 second quarter-mile path at 122 mph. Chevrolet is installing an all-new engine in the Z06: a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter twin-overhead camshaft V8 with a flat crankshaft. It produces 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful free-breathing V8 engine ever installed in a road car. It sends all that power to the eight-speed DCT, but its final reduction ratio is shorter. It gets better. The 5.5-liter, nicknamed LT6, spins up to 8,600 rpm. The 6.2-liter Stingray has its fuel cut-off set at 6500 rpm. The upcoming ZR1 variant is expected to bolt a pair of turbochargers to the LT6, boosting horsepower to over 800 horsepower.

Chevrolet specifically adjusts the suspension arm of the Z06, and magnetorheological dampers are standard. They cost $ 1895 on the Stingray. An electronically controlled limited-slip differential, also optional on the Stingray, is also standard.

The Z06’s brakes are 1.2 inches larger than the Brembos included in the Stingray’s Z51 package, and the Z06’s front calipers are six-piston compared to the Stingray’s four-piston brakes. Carbon-ceramic rotors are included in the Z06 track-focused Z07 package.

The Corvette Stingray have size 245/35 tires in the front and 305/30 in the rear, while the Z06’s rubber is size 275/30 in the front and 345/25 in the rear. The C8 Stingray’s optional Z51 Performance Package includes Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and Brembo brakes. Z06 cars come with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear aluminum wheels wrapped in standard Pilot Sport 4S rubber, although carbon fiber wheels are available, as are Pilot Sport Cup tires. 2 R specially designed for the Z06. The Z06 is 3.6 inches taller than the C8 Stingray to accommodate those larger tires.

You will notice a large rear spoiler on some Z06s. These cars come with the Z07 package, which not only includes many other performance options, but also aerodynamic adjustments such as the wing, as well as a front splitter and canards that help cornering and provide stability. . Cars not equipped with this set have a smaller adjustable spoiler. A unique front fairing allows air to feed into a central heat exchanger which cools the powertrain better, there is also more brake cooling, and the rear is also different from that of the Stingray, with end caps. central exhaust with four outlets. Its side air intakes are also larger.

Like the Stingray, the Z06 is available in coupe and convertible configurations. The same can be expected for the ZR1, which was available in both forms in the previous generation, but with even more aggressive aerodynamics.
