The ice disappeared on Sunday May 8 on Fish Hook Lake.
Of 172 eligible entries in Park Rapids Enterprise’s Ice Out 2022 contest, three entrants correctly guessed the ice out date.
Among them, Dan Harsha of Park Rapids was the winner of the raffle for a Pelican Sentinel 100x 10ft sit-on-top kayak and paddle. Randy Johnson and Todd Paulouski were also eligible for the draw.
“I’m really excited,” Harsha said Monday as he collected his award. “I’ve only won three things in my entire life. The first thing was a mechanical motor boat, when I was 6, when they had 15 cent matinees. The second thing, I was in the army and I won an electric razor playing bingo. And then this.
He said his correct guess was due to good advice from his son-in-law, Kevin George, who is an avid fisherman.
“We’re all going to share the kayak,” Harsha said, noting that his in-laws gave him a sit-in kayak last Christmas so his wife, Patty, wouldn’t have to paddle alone. “I’ve always wanted a kayak, and now I have two.”
There were votes for 32 different dates ranging from April 10 to May 22. Several dates received 10 or 11 votes, including April 20, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30 and May 1.
