The climbing wall is back

Whether it’s an Easter egg hunt, holiday trail, archery, or rock climbing, there’s something to do every day at the park today. until April 18 and beyond.

Nature lovers can enjoy a Nighttime Bat Walk and a Charming Worms event for kids. For water sports enthusiasts, there are numerous sailing lessons for children and adults as well as Pay and Play paddle sports hire.

Daily passenger boat trips and bike rentals will take place throughout the holiday. Otherwise, simply enjoy exploring the meadows, woods and lakes on foot or by bike, visit the playgrounds or stop for refreshment in a café.

Enjoy the Easter Holidays at Nene Park

Make a splash with “Pay and Play” water sports, available every day during the Easter holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities include swan pedal boats and rowboats, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and canoes, dinghies and windsurfing. Book online to avoid queues on busy days.

Try archery at Nene Park

Enjoy a night or more in a tent on the peaceful shores of Lake Gunwade. Both campsites, The Glade and Lakeview, are ideal for families and offer visitors the choice of a campsite only and bell tent rental on an individual or group booking basis. Located in the heart of Ferry Meadows, both campsites are ideally located to take advantage of all the exciting activities offered at Nene Outdoors. Enjoy a leisurely trip around Lake Overton and down the River Nene on an electric passenger boat. Pre-bookable 45-minute trips will depart daily from the Visitor Center Pier at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm. Suitable for all ages, it’s £8 per person, under threes free. Book your boat trip.

Enjoy the Easter Holidays at Nene Park

Rent a bike from Nene Outdoors and discover miles of traffic-free bike paths, lakeside trails and wooded roads in the park. Bike rental is available every day during the Easter holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rent bikes online.

Archery: Tuesday April 5, 11am-3pm

Unleash your inner Robin Hood. Archery sessions last 45 minutes and take place at Oak Meadow near Nene Outdoors. Sessions cost £10 per person and are suitable for children aged eight and over. Book your session.

Climbing wall: Thursday April 14, 11am-3pm

The climbing wall will return to Nene Outdoors, with sessions throughout the day. Great fun for adults and kids four and up. Who will reach the top first? Sessions are €10 per person. Book your session.

Family and nature entertainment

Holiday trail: Every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pick up a roadmap from the Visitor Center for just £1, then look for questions as you stroll through Ferry Meadows. Return to the Welcome Center to claim your prize to grow at home.

Social March Group: Monday, April 4, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Don’t know where to go for a walk or don’t like to walk alone? Join one of the Visitor Rangers for a social walk around Ferry Meadows and the wider Nene Park and meet like-minded people. This month, the walk is the promenade of the two woods. This event is free and accessible to ages 14 and up. Book your spot.

Bat Walk: Tuesday, April 5, 6-8 p.m.

Join the park rangers for an informative bat presentation, followed by a walk through the park using bat detectors to try to spot and identify the bats that inhabit Ferry Meadows. This event costs £8 per person and is suitable for ages 10 and up. Book your spot.

Charming Worms: Wednesday April 6, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m.

Learn more about these amazing twisty creatures and try to charm them to the surface. See who can find the shortest and longest worm, then make a vermicomposter to take home. This event costs £2.50 per person and is suitable for children aged two and over. Book your spot.

Ferry Meadows Easter Egg Hunt: Friday April 15, 10:30am-2:30pm

Can you help the Easter bunny find all the hidden Easter eggs? You’ll explore the park looking for pictures that will lead you to your Easter egg prize at the end. It’s £10 per booking which includes two Easter egg prizes and is suitable for all ages. Book your spot.

Arts and crafts workshops and events

Willow weaving workshop: Sunday April 3, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

This introductory workshop introduces you to the wonderful world of willow weaving. Join Martin from Rutland Willow as he walks you through the techniques you need to create three Easter-themed works. There are two sessions starting at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The workshop costs £20 per person and is suitable for ages 16 and up. Book online here.

John Clare Contemplative Trail: Monday April 4 to Friday April 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In Ferry Meadows Wildlife Garden, hear poetry by John Clare, music written by local folk musician Jon Boden and performed by local community choirs, and contemplative prompts to encourage people to be present in their surroundings for a few minutes . Suitable for all ages and free.

Walk & Draw: Thorpe Meadows Sculpture Trail – Thursday April 21, 10:30am-12:30pm

Join local artist Tony Nero and Louise Thirlwall, Nene Park Art Project Manager, for a leisurely walk and tour around the Thorpe Meadows Sculpture Trail to explore the carvings, landscape and environment through sketching. During the walk, experiment with pencil, pen and charcoal with Tony’s guidance and support. Only suitable for adults. Participation is free but reservation essential.

Poetry Animations – H est pour Héron: Saturday April 23, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Join poet Mark Grist for a fun and interactive outdoor poetry workshop. Could H be for heron, horses, bees or hedgehogs? Mark will share some of his new animal poems and help you create your own short poems about park wildlife. This is a free event suitable for children ages 8-15, but all are welcome. Places must be reserved in advance.

Z to A des Animaux – Shows and poetic animations: Saturday April 23 1 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

Mark Grist will perform excerpts from a new poetic performance based on brave animals, with a poem for each letter of the alphabet. Learn about some of the brave animals that inhabit the park and take part in poetry activities. This is a free event, suitable for ages eight and up, but all are welcome.

Sailing lessons at Nene Outdoors

Adult RYA Start Sailing – Level 1: Saturday April 9 and Sunday April 10. 9am-5pm

This two-day course covers how to navigate in all directions, including launch and recovery awareness. After the course, participants will be able to sail in light winds under supervision. All safety equipment including wetsuits and buoyancy aids are provided. Suitable for ages 16 and up. £166 per person. Online booking.

Voile RYA Jeunesse – Stage 1: Monday April 11 and Tuesday April 12 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This two day course covers basic sailing skills, rope work and collision avoidance.

After the course, participants will be able to tack and control boat speed and understand the basics. All safety equipment including wetsuits and buoyancy aids are provided. Suitable for ages 8-15, £166 pp. Online booking.

RYA Youth Sailing – Stage 2: Wednesday April 13 to Thursday April 14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This two-day course covers launching and recovery, piloting, parts of the boat and the basics of sailing. After the course, participants will be able to lead and understand the basics. All safety equipment including wetsuits and buoyancy aids are provided. Suitable for ages 8-15, £166 pp. Online booking.
