A San Francisco man who went missing on Sunday while kayaking on Clear Lake was found dead Thursday by a Calfire team, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
Dylan Flanagan, 28, last spoke to his girlfriend by phone around 5 p.m. Sunday while on the lake. All subsequent phone calls went to voicemail and he was reported missing around 8:15 p.m. that evening.
High winds hampered search efforts on Sunday evening. On Monday morning his kayak was found in Widgeon Bay and other property was found in the Clear Lake Keys area – a paddle on Rattlesnake Island and shoes, hat, water bottle and life jacket on the shore near the marina.
At around 10:40 a.m. Thursday, employees of the California Department of Fire and Forestry Protection found the body along the lake shore near Olsen Road, one kilometer west of where the kayak was found.
An autopsy is scheduled for next week, the sheriff’s office said.
Flanagan had stayed with friends at a Clear Lake vacation home to celebrate his birthday and a career promotion, the Lake County News reported.
He grew up in Irvine and attended the University of California at Santa Barbara.
