The light at the refuge will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today through Thursday at 1380 Lower Field Road, Ayden. The event includes a live nativity scene and other exhibits to highlight the biblical Christmas message. There is no admission fee, but donations are accepted. Hoggard Christmas Wonderland of Lights, 101 Dalton Drive, Windsor, will be open until January 1. The exhibit features 500,000 lights, as well as hand-inflated silhouettes, figurines and Christmas decorations. The hours are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday to Sunday. There is no admission fee, but donations are accepted. The Family Support Network of Eastern NC will host the 2021 Festival of Trees from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Thursday at the Greenville Convention Center, 303 SW Greenville Blvd. There is no admission fee. Nay Nay Piece of Heaven Horse Rescue Farm, 1379 NC 171 North, Washington, NC, will host Nay Nay’s Christmas Wonderland Hayride from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today through Thursday and December 26-28 . The event will feature hay rides, photos with Santa Claus and Christmas music. Snacks and gift items will be available for sale. Admission is $ 15 for adults, $ 10 for ages 2 to 12 and free for children under 2. Call 809-2505.

The Leroy James Farmer’s Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday and December 31. It will open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from January 8 until spring.

The Pamlico Sail & Power Squadron, now known as America’s Boating Club of the Pamlico, is kicking off its 2022 educational program with a course for local boaters from January 5 to March 2. The marine navigation course will be held at 6-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at First Presbyterian Church, 211 W. Second St., Washington. The Community Soup Kitchen at 3492 S. Walnut St. in Farmville serves hot meals from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The kitchen relies on donations and volunteers. To volunteer or for more information call Janet Heath at 917-4563.

The Family Chess Club offers lectures and chess games for children ages 3 and up from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesdays at Apt To Learn, 650 E. Fire Tower Road, Suite B, Winterville.
