David Ray Smith, loved fishing



David Ray Smith, 72, of Ellendale died Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Bayhealth Hospital in Milford.

Born August 21, 1949 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lyman O’Dell and Jean Margaret Hallstead Smith.

David loved to fish, tinker in his house, take care of his garden – he always loved making sure the grass was mowed and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to take his grandson Jaxton on his fishing boat. He also loved listening to Jimmy Buffett (even though Heather stole his CD) and Grateful Dead. He graduated from Drexel University and the University of Delaware, and was a proud brother of the Sigma Pi Brotherhood.

He is survived by his sister, Becky Smith Lowry; his lifelong best friend, Elnor O’Hern; two daughters, Heather Curnoles and her husband Jason Curnoles, and Amber Smith; three grandchildren, Lila, Jaxton and Sophia; nieces and nephew, Katelyn, Daniel and Molly Lowry; and several cousins.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Travis Smith; and his twin brother, Donald Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and thanks to nurses and doctors at Bayhealth Hospital.

Family and friends are invited to attend David’s funeral, which will be held at noon on Thursday, December 30, at Sheldon-Kukuchka Inc. Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, Pa., With a screening of 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Lake Winola.
