Nothing gets into my freebie mindset like browsing a major retailer, and for outdoor gear, Bass Pro Shops has to be the biggest name. You used to spend days flipping through a catalog or hours browsing the store, but now you can just hop online, find a product, and have it shipped directly to you (or your gift) or have it delivered. to your nearest Bass Pro for curbside pickup.
Sure, that can take the romance out of gifts, but it also takes the headache out of crowds and queues. You have the stock and convenience of a big-box retailer, but the luxury of shopping from your own couch. To make your vacation shopping even easier, we’ve compiled this list of some of our favorite gift gear, from fishing rods and reels to trail cameras and rangefinders.
If you are looking for the best gifts at Bass Pro Shops or on a partner site Cabela’sWe have what you need.
Fishing Gifts
Of our price of best fishing reels, top spinning, baitcasting and fly reels are all available at Bass Pro. For spinning, Shimano’s Stradic FL is simple, versatile and durable. It has a solid drag in every size. It casts lures and operates silently.
If your gift loves the finer things in life and someone who prefers fly fishing to spinning fishing– you can’t go wrong with a Hydros from Orvis. The design has been streamlined in its latest iterations, removing everything unnecessary and leaving a super light spool. But in this light coil, nothing is compromised. You get easily adjustable drag that’s also beefed up with carbon and stainless steel stacked washers and an improved seal.
Maybe you get a gift for a bass nut. Not as stuffy as the fly fisherman, but just as (perhaps more) obsessed with his gear. Abu Garcia’s Revo Rocket is our best baitcaster. You can rip lures with a 10.1:1 gear ratio, shooting 41 feet of line in a single turn. Inside you have 10+1 corrosion resistant bearings to keep things running smoothly. Externally you have a super strong alloy frame and side plates. It is lightweight, durable and capable. Everything your bass needs.
The Panoptix is Garmin’s flagship transducer system. The first time you use it, the live scanning sonar feels like a revelation – you’re practically there among fish and structure. The sonar will look up to 200 feet from the boat, so it’s almost guaranteed more powerful than anything they’re currently working with.
Pair this Panoptix transducer with one of Garmin’s ECHOMAP Fish Finder/Chartplotter combos. They come with a less powerful transducer, if you want to skimp on the Panoptix, but the 93sv is the top of the line ECHOMAP. With a 9-inch sunlight-readable display and preloaded LakeVü g3 indoor maps, it’s the perfect accompaniment to this sophisticated new bass boat.
Hunt Gifts
The SpyPoint Flex is one of our favorite trail cameras for several reasons:
1. It works on both cellular networks supported by SpyPoint, Verizon and Nationwide. This means you don’t have to worry about which model to buy – you just get this one and use one of the two pre-activated SIM cards they gave you.
2. It takes 33MP photos and 1080p video. This video option is really handy so you can place your camera on play trails and water crossings, anywhere your pet is guaranteed to be but still on the move.
3. It supports 512GB microSD card. 1080p video takes a lot of storage. That helps. The memory card is however sold separately. We like this offer on Amazon right now.
Ultimately, range time is what helps you make accurate shots. But when you’re out in the field, a range finder will do wonders to make sure your pet is as clean and ethical as possible. Western hunters will know all about good rangefinders, but even treestand bow hunters could benefit from the added technology. When it comes to rangefinders, this Sig Sauer model will be at the top of any shooter’s list.
Nothing ruins a day like bad boots. Luckily, Danner makes some damn good pairs of boots. Sturdy enough to keep you walking all day. Hot but not too hot. Big enough in case you come across a hostile reptile. Everything you need.
And while rugged women’s gear might seem harder to find, Danner has you covered, too. The 400 gram Thinsulate is warm, but not too hot. Polyester sockliner and midsole absorb shock. Nylon accents reduce weight and leather throughout will stand the test of time. An almost perfect pair of boots.
Ask the hunter in your life for their most valuable hunting gear and it’s probably their weapon. That’s what really does the trick. Pelican holsters are the standard bearer in gun protection. Get this for your hunter and his weapon will be protected for life. They’ll thank you every time they pull it from the safe to the briefcase.
Backcountry Electronics
You might not think of a smartwatch as the most usable backcountry electronics, but with Garmin’s GPS capability and the watch’s solar charging feature, it can be an extremely useful tool. We have written a full watch reviewbut just know that if you’re planning on gifting a smartwatch to the outdoor enthusiast in your life, this is the one they want.
Something with a more apparent backcountry application that we also tested is the Garmin inReach Mini 2. Easy to set up, user-friendly and a fraction of the size of other Garmin models, the inReach Mini 2 is the brand’s best solar communicator to date.
If you want to go a little further, offer a Garmin Montana 700i. Like the inReach Mini, it will always keep them on the map, but they’ll have a 5-inch touchscreen to view their position themselves.
More great gifts
The biggest name in the pellet grill revolution for a reason, Traeger pellet smokers take all the guesswork out of smoking. Just load the fuel, set a temperature and leave it alone. Grillmasters and novices alike will appreciate how easily they can execute their recipes. You can get the greatest Trager 780but honestly the 575 is big enough for most people.
Give this meat grinder as a gift. show them this deer burger recipe. Thank us later.
If you’re buying gifts for a teenager, they’ll probably want one. Do not ask me why, I do not know. All I know is these truckers has become something of a fashion statement on TikTokand now my nephew and all his friends wear them.
