July is Parks and Recreation Month, and in Bemidji, outdoor activities are on the rise for people of all ages with the help of the Parks and Recreation Department. This weekend, the Youth Fishing Tournament kicks off, kicking off the city’s celebration of Parks and Recreation Month.
Whether on land or in the water, parks and recreation departments are finding ways to bring activities to their respective communities this summer. Bemidji department hopes people will attend their outdoor activities in July.
The first major event scheduled for Bemidji Parks and Recreation this month is the Youth Fishing Tournament. Although it is managed by the city department, it is not limited to the Bemidji region.
The Youth Fishing Tournament will allow children 16 and older to participate. However, the Department of Parks and Recreation has also seen children as young as 5 casting their lines. Everyone will receive a participation prize, but those who reach the top of their category will also receive a special prize.
The Youth Fishing Tournament will take place July 9-16 and is free for all youth 16 and under. Participants can register and submit their results virtually.
