KNOX — Authorities are investigating a boating incident on Lake Thompsons that left a 47-year-old man dead.

A small boat containing a man and woman capsized on Thompsons Lake around 8 p.m. Saturday night, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

After a few minutes of struggling with the boat, the female lost consciousness. Neighbors on the lake pulled the two onto another boat and rushed them to shore while performing CPR on the woman, officials said.

The woman was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

The Albany County Coroner’s Office has been notified and an autopsy is to be scheduled, said Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr.

The identity of the victim will be released pending notification of next of kin, officials said, and an investigation is ongoing.
